You know those weeks that just rev nonstop full tilt? I'm in a stretch of them. That's not a complaint, it's more like an embarrassment of riches - life in full living color. Usually, my garden's peonies reaching peak bloom just about now would be plenty of excitement for one week.
Don't get me wrong - I've also been working non stop. I'm just enormously lucky in that work often feels like play for me too. I have some really big drops in today's note, AND I'm heading to Charlottesville today for my annual peony pilgrimage to Pharsalia Farm, AND on Friday, I'm heading to Venice and the Veneto visiting the villas and gardens of Andrea Palladio. Lucky me got to spend several nights over the last two weeks in both Charlottesville and Middleburg. The Virginia countryside is breathtakingly beautiful, and I urge you all to consider it for your next domestic mini getaway. Delicious food (and wine), inspiring gardens, and some of our country's finest farms await your visit.
5/16/22 Paean to the Peony
My husband suggested the title for this week's note, "Paean to the Peony". "No one will know what that means", I said, not pointing out that no one included me. Sigh. I looked it up and learned: paean: "a song of praise or triumph". Well Lordy me, that's just what I had written. Let's sing it out to the rafters!
5/17/21 - Blue Ridge and Pink Love and Happiness
I had a stellar week - I travelled down to Charlottesville to set up for a trunk show at the very chic Quirk hotel (more on that below), undaunted by the prospects of a gasoline crisis in Virginia. Nothing was going to stand in the way of my great peony adventure at Pharsalia Farm, and a visit with an old friend and her husband. The beautiful interiors at Quirk, along with the Blue Ridge mountains and a profusion of peonies, inspired this week's color pairing.
